Apparently today is my day to be very spiritual, not that I am not a spirit filled woman, I just don't always share alot. Anyway, here is a story about my husband. . .
For those who may not know Scott is a fire fighter/paramedic for Mehlville Fire Protection District in St Louis. He loves his job and I am so proud of him and the work he does. I now need to brag about him for a bit.
In school we have been learning about cardiology stuff, this is one of Scott's best subjects and he is very, very good at it. Maybe it is because of the heart problems his dad had, I am not sure, but he is an ace at heart stuff so naturally I have turned to him for help. The other day he called to brag a bit about his "first clinical save of the year", which means in laymans terms he saved someone's life. (He has been on the pumper for most of this year so he hasn't ran alot of medical calls). The reason he was telling me about it was because he wanted to let me know he had some really cook EKG strips to show me and wanted me to know how he did it for my own education purposes. All night I kept thinking about what he had done, his patient was about to have a fatal heart attack and because my husband was there and got him into the ambulance quickly his family never saw him go unconscious, they never saw him be shocked by a defribillator, and when Scott wheeled him on the stretcher into the hospital he was talking away to his family. Oh the outcome could have been so different. . .
(Let me interject here that I don't think my husband has any amazing powers, any paramedic would have done the same thing, but this story is about the one I call mine)
The next morning I sent my husband a text to praise him for his abilities, here is the way the text went:
Me: It is so awesome that u saved a life last night. U should be so proud!
Scott: Nah...somebody else was responsible for that outcome
Is that not the most awesome thing?! I think it is! How wonderful it is to know that when my husband is saving someone's life he is so keenly aware that God is in control, he is just there as a vessel to do God's work.

ReplyDeleteDon't you know that it's times like this that both you and Scott can know that all the hard work, studying and sacrifices of your personal time were worth it.
ReplyDeleteAnd by the way, know that everytime I hear those sirens leaving the firehouse, I send up prayers for all involved, those who are hurt or injured and for those who are rushing to their aid.
